Doctor of Biology, Professor, awarded with the State Prize of the USSR, Head of Apoptosis Mechanisms’ Research Laboratory, MSU Faculty of Fundamental Medicine.

In 1970 graduated from Saint-Petersburg Chemical and Pharmaceutical University.

In 1975 defended his PhD thesis “Molecular Characteristics of the Rat Genome after X-ray Radiation” in Biological Sciences. Awarded with the State Prize of the USSR (1987). Defended his doctoral thesis “Molecular mechanisms of radiation-induced programmed death of lymphoid cells” in Biological Sciences (1988), professor (since 2002). Currently heading Apoptosis Mechanisms Research Laboratory at MSU Faculty of Fundamental Medicine, Professor at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm.

Scientific interests: apoptosis-like and autophagy-like mechanisms of cell death; cancer control. Author of over 300 scientific articles, head of 18 theses.
